MarkText: If You Don’t Want to Pay for a Markdown Editor
One-sentence solution: Typora became paid and you need an alternative? MarkText offers nearly identical functionality with an equally elegant interface — and it’s open-source.
Typora used to be the most comfortable tool for writing Markdown — WYSIWYG, clean interface, completely immersive writing. But it switched to a paid model starting in 2022.
If you don’t want to pay, and you don’t want to go back to the “code on the left, preview on the right” split-screen mode, MarkText is your best choice.
What Is MarkText?
MarkText is an open-source WYSIWYG Markdown editor. What you write is rendered in real-time as formatted text — no need to look at Markdown symbols. It’s completely free and cross-platform.
The problem it solves: Write Markdown with the same experience as Typora, without spending a cent.
